4 Benefits of Oil Pulling

Oil Pulling has become an essential part of my morning routine. It gives me that “fresh out of the dentist” clean feeling, don’t we all just LOVE that feeling?

It took me some time to get into the habit. If the jar of coconut oil wasn’t sitting on the counter next to my toothbrush with a clean spoon right next to it with a bottle of peppermint oil ready to be used - it simply wasn't going to happen that day.

So instead I found an option that’ll make the habit easy - fractionated (the type that stays liquid) coconut oil, with peppermint oil already in it. AND I replaced the spoon with a shot glass.

I wanted to highlight this because all of these benefits of oil pulling mean nothing if you don't actually do it. Making a healthy habit convenient and easy is a way to set yourself up for success, healthy habits should be simple. In fact, if you want a healthy habit to stick it is essential for it to be simple - stack the odds in your favor.

You’re worth it.

Here are the 4 main benefits of oil pulling (besides that fresh out the dentist clean feeling):

  • Kills bad bacteria:

Studies show that oil pulling, specifically with coconut oil, reduces the growth of Streptococcus mutans, a bacterium that can cause tooth decay and plaque build up. (1)

  • Freshens your breath:

Since oil pulling reduces bacteria, and this oil pulling solution has all natural peppermint oil in - your breath will stay fresher much longer compared to mouthwash.

  • Reduces risk of cavities:

Oil pulling creates a healthy environment in your mouth, meaning less harmful bacteria in your gums and saliva. With less bacteria sitting in your mouth, you’re less likely to develop cavities.

  • May reduce inflammation in your gums:

Studies show that oil pulling daily may reduce inflammation in your gums, which may also reduce your risk of gingivitis.
